Casa del Patio: renovation of a courtyard house in Berja
Load-bearing walls, a central courtyard and a kitchen that opens onto it again.
The brief
A two-storey house in the old centre of Berja, shut up for ten years, with load-bearing stone masonry walls and a central courtyard. The new owner wants to live in it without losing its character.
Our proposal
- We keep the load-bearing walls and the courtyard, and the new layout adapts to them.
- A new insulated roof over the repaired timber structure.
- Kitchen and dining room open to the courtyard, which becomes the centre of the house again.
- New wiring and pipework that stay accessible, with no chases cut into the old walls.
